Beauty Birthday Freebies You Need To Know About

Every year during my birthday month, I wait with baited breath to start receiving emails that have discounts, freebies and messages for my birthday. Makes me feel special, you know? I usually just sit on the discounts but the freebies make me ecstatic. Since I am basically obsessed with anything beauty those are the emails I am most excited about to receive. Compared to what you used to be able to get a few years ago birthday freebies have come a long way.

To be even more specific on what freebies I like and want to pick up, I have a few things I look for:

  • Must be completely free, no purchase required.

  • Must have a physical location I can pick it up from. New York City spoiled, Sorry!!!

  • When is it available for me to pick up; The whole month, only on my birth date, etc.

This year I think I got about 45 emails from clothing brands, restaurants, beauty brands and more. I did use a few dining offers that I'll mention below but as I was traveling I didn't have time to hit up any more. I completely ignored the clothing brand emails as they were just discounts that weren't worth it.

Quick note! For all of these free birthday gifts and freebies you have to be signed up for the brands mailing list and/or have an account with their brand before your birthday month starts. Get on that!!!!!

So, what did I get for free this year?

Sephora

Anyone who has ever shopped at Sephora knows they have a birthday gift every year for Beauty Insider members. This year as a VIB member I had four gifts to pick from, BI members would have the first two choices. The options are a three piece Kat Von D set including an eyeliner, setting powder and lipstick foil samples; a two piece Drunk Elephant set including a cleanser and moisturizer; 250 points onto your account or a last gift that actually rotates through the year (July's gift was an IGK duo).

I went with the Drunk Elephant Duo which is their Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser (1 fl oz/30 ml) and Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Cream (.5 fl oz/15 ml). A little basic with my choice but my favorite pick.

Ulta

I have mixed feelings over the Ulta birthday gift, I do every year. Last year Ulta broke the year up into four quarters and each quarter had a different gift. This year the company is changing up the birthday gift to be different each month. For July, the birthday freebie was a Lancôme deluxe sample of their Monsieur Big mascara. I only picked this up because I was visiting my mom and she wanted to stop into the store. If my mom didn’t want to go into the store while I was visiting I 100% would not have picked it up. Last year I visited the only New York City Ulta location, which is out of the way uptown, three times to pick up my gift. Each time I visited they never had any in stock and couldn't tell me when it would be back in stock. I personally feel like the gifts they have offered the last few years haven't been very impressive, pick up your game Ulta!

Fresh

I am such a big fan of Fresh Beauty! It is honestly my favorite gift to pick up each year just because of how much I like the brand. I am almost positive that you have to sign up for their mailing list through a store but as a New Yorker, I have access to a few different locations, that I frequently stop in. I do want to note that I haven’t ever actually got an email about this birthday freebie, it was something a store associate mentioned to me when I was buying something years ago during my birthday month. Definitely more of a more word of mouth situation.

This year I picked up the “Birthday Boosters” duo which includes a deluxe size Soy Face Cleanser (0.6 fl oz/20 ml) which is a favorite of mine and a deluxe size Black Tea Firming Corset Cream (0.23 fl oz/7 ml).

Space NK

Space NK Changes up their birthday freebie monthly for their N.dulge members. Personally, I signed up online and have received emails to pick up my gift in stores but each year I seem to have problems. The stores and the online website seem to have a disconnect but I've never been told I couldn't pick up the gift when I go to pick it up. So helpful tip: If you can sign up in stores for N.dulge!!!

For the month of July, I picked up a trio of deluxe sized goodies. Chantecaille's faux cils longest lash mascara, Briogeo's Don't Dispear Repair! deep conditioning mask, and Oskia's Renaissance Cleansing Gel. My sister also gave me her gift from June which had deluxe samples of Hourglass's Caution Extreme Lash Mascara, Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray and Oskia's Renaissance Cleansing Gel.

Rituals

This was a new one for me, it was actually a complete surprise that I got an email from the brand. Every month the gift changes to a deluxe sample of a new product the brand is launching. For July, I received a travel size of Rituals Fleurs de l'Himalaya eau de parfum.

When I went into the store to redeem this every sales representative working hadn't seen a birthday email before. Maybe its a new thing?? But I had a great chat with one of the girls, we bonded over eyeshadow and she surprised me by throwing in two of the perfumes and a bunch of extra samples for me to try. Happy Birthday to me!

The Body Shop

The last birthday freebie I cashed in was from The Body Shop. The brand sent me a $10 giftcard that you can use on anything. I have a birthday that is around the Fourth of July so a lot of stores have sales. Luckily, The Body Shop is one of them. I was able to sort through a lot of products that aren't usually as cheap as I found them at. Normally both of the products I picked up are $15, but I was able to pick them up for $5 each. I spent quite a bit of time finding the products I wanted based on how amazing the sent was. I went home with Cactus Blossom Body Yogurt and Cactus Blossom Hand Wash.

Places I wasn't able to hit up this year:

  • bareMinerals: This year you would be able to pick up a free full sized loose eyeshadow in any color of your choice.

  • Mario Badescu: The brand sends you a code for a free $10 on anything, but since their are no physical stores I didn't want to pick anything and have to pay shipping. Their facial mists are to die for though!!

Special Non-Beauty Birthday Freebies that I used:

  • Benihana: If you have a Benihana near you sign up for their emails to get a $30 gift card to use during your birthday week.

  • Moe's Southwestern Grill: Free Burritos!!!! Is anything non-beauty related better then that?? Such a good birthday treat. To pick this up you will have to download their app.

  • Haru Sushi: This is my favorite food related birthday treat. Love sushi and Love Haru. Sadly, they don't have any locations outside of New York City but if you are close enough, this is a birthday freebie I would use.

The Roundup

Overall, this year was definitely a win in my books. I walked away with amazing products that I already loved and products that I've grown to love. Every year I seem to be adding a new brand that gives out a free birthday gifts. Being in New York City, I'm privileged to have all of these brand stores for me to pick up these gifts. I'm not sure how many stores each of the brands have around the US but if you have any of these places near you, you should definitely pick some of these up. Can't wait to see what I find for next year!!
